Final Payments, Excursion Selection, & Transport

July is approaching quickly and this page explains a bit more about what we need from you before your arrival in Belize.
There are three steps we’d love for you to complete in the next few days (Sunday June 19 deadline):

Step 1: Submit your remaining balance

Step 2: Submit your flight information and transportation selection

Step 3: Select your excursions

Step 1: Submit your remaining balance (due Sunday June 19)

Hankinco Adventures has already submitted our final accommodations payment to the Naia Resort & Spa. As such, we’re hoping to process your final payments this June in order to transfer funds without issue. We invite you to submit your remaining balance via Paypal or Venmo as soon as possible.

Please remember to account for the 3.7% credit card fee if you are not transferring funds directly from a checking account. See the screenshot below for further information about submitting final payments:

Step 2: Submit your flight information and transportation selection form

We’ve got folks traveling from all over the US to Belize: the great Pacific Northwest, South Carolina, Los Angeles, New York, and Atlanta (just to name a few home base locations!) In order to make sure arrivals and departures all happen smoothly we’re asking for you to submit your flight itinerary by Sunday June 19. If you haven’t purchased tickets yet our team is happy to advise — please reach out over email or text: hankincoadventures@gmail.com // 661-304-4341.

As part of your adventure package we offer complimentary shuttle service to/from Belize City. We will depart from Belize City International Airport (BZE) on Monday July 11 at 1PM. The shuttles returning to Belize City from Placencia on Saturday July 16 will leave the resort at 7AM and 8AM. Guests will be back in Belize City to catch flights home around 11AM or 12PM depending on their shuttle departure time.

In the form, please provide your flight information (to/from Belize or Placencia), your transportation selection to/from Belize City, and provide any additional details about your travel that we might need to have on hand. If you are flying to or from Placencia on Maya Island Air/Tropic Air please note this in the form — we’ll be sharing this information with the hotel to provide free shuttle service to the Placencia airport.

Step 3: Select your excursions

The Hankinco Adventure team is excited to share our Belize excursions with you! We’ve been working hard with local tour operators and vendors to guarantee you’re getting the best of the best that Belize has to offer. All of our tours are 100% Belizean run and payments/tips go directly to our operators and vendors. Your fees cover two full day excursions (July 13 & July 14) as well as a bonus half-day excursion on July 15.

We ask that you select the activity that most excites you. The Hankinco Adventures team has curated and tested each excursion, so you can’t go wrong with any selection. We are offering 3 excursion options for each day: Land, Sea, and Culture. If you have specific questions about any excursion please reach out to our team. We’re happy to answer any question.

You’ll also see an option each day to select “No excursion - Naia relaxation day”. If you select this option we’ll apply your excursion fees to lunch, spa treatments, or drinks at the Naia during your relaxation day. Note: the reallocated excursion fees may not cover all spa packages but should provide a significant discount.

FYI: if you’re staying in Belize before/after July 11-16 we are happy to help arrange excursions with our tour operators for a discounted rate. We can also arrange for deep sea fishing, sailing, and scuba trips if there’s interest (additional fees apply).

Land, Sea, Culture Options - Full Day Excursion (Weds July 13)

Land:

Xunantunich & Cave Tubing

Explore one of the most impressive Mayan archeological sites in Belize and journey into the mythology of the Mayan underworld.

AM - Xunantunich

This tour is for our more adventurous guests who are excited to learn about one of the most amazing Maya Archaeological Sites in Belize: Xunantunich whose name derives from the Yucatec Maya language and means “Stone Woman". We'll leave early (~7am) for this tour and drive up the gorgeous Hummingbird Highway to reach the Cayo district in the West of Belize. Here, you'll learn all the details of how Xunantunich came to be, the history, culture, rituals, and evolution of Maya society in the jungles of Belize. This tour also includes the guide’s expertise in the natural world -- identifying plants, birds, and other animals of interest to daily life of the ancient Maya (and Belizeans today).

— Lunch at local restaurant in San Jose Succotz —

PM - Cave Tubing:

We'll travel to the Mayan Underworld with our afternoon of cave tubing to experience another fantastic piece of what Cayo District has to offer: cool waters and stunning cave formations. You'll be led by our expert cave guides who will share the details of the geological formations, natural world, and Maya mythology relevant to the caves and rivers of western Belize. Also, this is a hell of a lot of fun: you're floating downstream enjoying the beauty of the limestone formations, as well as plants and animals we might meet along the way.

Tour includes: transportation, lunch, snacks, water, entrance fees, towels, headlamps (if needed), inner tubes for river, and a professional and passionate tour guide. Some minor restrictions on age / mobility based on climbing ruins and comfort in the caves/tubing: easy - moderate activity levels.

Sea: Snorkeling at Laughing Bird Caye Marine Reserve

Experience the extraordinary Belize Barrier Reef in a guided snorkeling tour of Laughing Bird Caye. We’ll snorkel in the morning, break for lunch, and hop back in for another guided snorkel session in the afternoon.

Named for the so-called laughing gulls which formerly used the island as a nesting site, Laughing Bird Caye is a small island located approximately 11 miles off the coast of the Placencia Peninsula. Today, the island is the epicenter of Laughing Bird Caye National Park (est 1991), a protected nature reserve that includes the island as well as the surrounding waters.

Technically, Laughing Bird Caye is what’s known as a faro, an angular stretch of coral with a lagoon in its center. The island is the southernmost island along the central region of the Belize Barrier Reef, placing it in the middle of one of the busiest “thoroughfares” used by marine life to transit in and out of the area.

AM: morning guided snorkel tour

This unique geography makes Laughing Bird Caye National Park a great place to see different types of marine life, including several varieties of coral that form “ringed reefs”. There are three different areas of coral in and around the island, including one big reef in the central lagoon, some on the outer rim, and several patch reefs in the lagoon. This variety in form and relatively shallow water (the lagoon is just 16 feet/five meters at its deepest) make for some superb snorkeling.

— Beach BBQ lunch (vegetarian options available) —

PM: afternoon guided snorkel tour of remaining ringed reef areas

The island itself is protected, so there are no human residents, and the pristine condition of the island makes it a great place to spot wildlife. The laughing gulls are mostly gone, but other birds can be found on the island, including green herons, frigate birds, and the endangered brown pelican. Flora that can be found on Laughing Bird Caye includes coconut palms, morning glory flowers, spider lilies, and both red and black mangrove trees.

Tour includes: transportation, beach towels, park fees, high-quality snorkeling gear (swim fins/masks), a Belizean beach BBQ lunch (veg/GF options available), rum punch, water, life jackets, snorkeling guides, and boat captains. There are no restrictions on age/mobility for this tour. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Culture: Garifuna Village & Horseback Riding

Enjoy this unique opportunity for cross-cultural connection with our host Garifuna family in Seine Bight and soak up the beauty of the jungle on horseback.

AM: Village visit with Garifuna community of Seine Bight

This tour begins with a 10 min trip south from the Naia to nearby Seine Bight where we'll spend a morning with a Garifuna family to learn about the history, culture, food, and music that's unique to their community and heritage. Our main activity is to work directly with the family to prepare our own lunch -- the famous dish of the Garifuna, called "The Hudut". This dish consists of pure coconut milk from the dry coconuts and fresh snappers from our beautiful Caribbean sea, oregano leafs, whole habanero peppers, black pepper and salt. The meal is served with boiled green and ripe plantain pounded together like mashed potatoes. Once the meal is done then we go ahead and enjoy our lunch prepared with the help of our host family.

— Lunch with our host family in Seine Bight —

PM: Horseback riding in the Belizean jungle

Once we finish our lunch, we will travel to a nearby ranch to meet our partners for the afternoon activity: horseback riding in the jungles of Belize. Each guest will learn the basics about their horses and embark on the trail ride through shallow streams, across citrus groves, and on jungle pathways. There will also be the opportunity to swim in some of the rivers and jungle pools along the way.

Tour includes transportation, lunch, water, entrance fees, towels, and a professional and passionate tour guide.  No restrictions on age / mobility -- easy. Guests on this excursion will be asked to submit basic height/weight estimates for horseback riding to pair guests with best animal for their frame.

You'll be enjoying the Mayan Sky Canopy Tour which consists of 11 decks and 7 zip lines which provides views previously only accessible if you were an iguana or a bird! Enjoy the stunning scenery of the Belizean jungle from the sky as you fly through the air on the zip lines.

PM: River Tubing on the South Stann Creek river

After we finish our lunch we'll head to the banks for the South Stann Creek river for our afternoon fun: floating downstream and splashing around! The river will take us through class 1-2 rapids (low key), and includes a couple of areas where we can hop off, swim, and stop to have a cold beer along the way. This is the perfect way to spend an afternoon in Belize this July!

Tour includes: transportation, lunch, water, entrance fees, equipment for zip lining and river tubing, towels, and a professional and passionate tour guide. Easy - Moderate activity level.

Sea: Snorkeling at Silk Caye & Turtle Alley

Float with a stunning variety of turtles, sharks, and rays at one of the most picturesque snorkel and dive locations of the Belizean reef.

The Gladden Spit promontory is one of the most beautiful areas of the Belize Barrier Reef. Together with the Silk Cayes (islands), this area measures approximately 40 square miles (105 square km) and is now called the Gladden Spit and Silk Cayes Marine Reserve (GSSCMR) which is a protected marine area under Belizean law.

Gladden Spit itself is one of the only three atolls found outside the Pacific Ocean. The “Spit” as it is known by local fisherman is the tapered end of a long atoll that has a steeply sloping shelf that quickly plunges to a depth of 2,000 meters.

AM: morning guided snorkel tour

We’ll dive in with our guides (after a short introduction on how to use your fins and snorkel gear) to explore the stunning reef surrounding the island. You’ll learn about the wide variety of corrals, reef fish, and deeper water species who make the Gladden Spit / Silk Cayes protected area their home.

For three months out of the year, whale sharks come to Gladden Spit and Silk Caye Marine Reserve, a protected area where sharks, rays, fish, turtles and other marine life call home. Nesting terns call the Cayes home as well. Schools of fish spawn in these waters, and the food source attracts the whale sharks for feeding. The spawning happens around the full moon during March to June. The fish release enormous numbers of eggs that attract the whale sharks.

For those of you interested in scuba diving you’ll continue on past the shallow reef to enjoy the drop off areas just outside the Gladden Spit area. Although we’re outside of Whale Shark high-season, this end in June, we may get lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the biggest fish in the ocean! Note: if you plan to dive please let the Hankinco Adventures team know so we can collect the diving surcharge (above the cost of the snorkeling excursion).

— Beach BBQ lunch (vegetarian options available) —

PM: afternoon guided snorkel tour & Turtle Alley

After a second guided snorkel tour in a new section of the reef you will arrive at “Turtle Alley”. Here you will have a close encounter with a variety of huge loggerhead turtles, rough-tail stingrays, snappers, barracudas, nurse sharks and eagle rays that frequent the area. This is an excellent chance to get up close and personal with these amazing sea creatures.

Tour includes: transportation, beach towels, park fees, high-quality snorkeling gear (swim fins/masks), a Belizean beach BBQ lunch (veg/GF options available), rum punch, water, life jackets, snorkeling guides, and boat captains. There are no restrictions on age/mobility for this tour. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

If you love chocolate, don’t miss out on this tour!

— buffet style lunch with the famous chocolate chicken at Ixcacao Chocolate Company (vegetarian options available) —

PM: explore Nim Li Punit ruins

After lunch we’ll head to the Nim Li Punit ruins in the Toledo district. In the Kekchi Maya dialect, Nimli Punit translates to “big hat”. This particular site is well known for its large stelae whose glyphs depict major events in ancient Mayan history. Learn all about Maya culture, rituals, architecture, and mythology during the height of the Maya period.

Some of the highlights of Nim Li Punit excavation are the Plaza of the Royal Tombs in the residential area of the royal family. You’ll also explore the Plaza of the Stelae where 26 of the massive stone monuments were found (some of the most stelae at any site in the Mayan world). These stone monuments were used to commemorate and record important political events such as alliances, wars and battles, family trees, and visits from official delegations from surrounding cities.

Exploring Nim Li Punit also allows the guide to share their expertise of the natural world. Your guide will also explain plants, birds, and other animals of interest to daily life of the ancient Maya (and Belizeans today).
